(Definitely Not-So-Daily) Sketch

Today, I worked up a very brief butterfly sketch... which showed me that I have a lot of work ahead of me, if I'm going to be able to turn these guys into fantasy butterflies. So, here's a start:

Daily Drawing: August 2, 2015

And just to keep the momentum going, here's a quick study from life, augmented a little by imagination:

Daily Drawing - July 6, 2015: Improbable Creature #7

I ran out of time today, so this rapid sketch is all I managed. What did it teach me? Well, I really need to go and study how wings work.

Daily Photographs - June 2015

Well, they happened - again, not every day... and my camera decided to not record the exact date, so I'm going to have to guess the order, but there was a nice variety of things to photograph.

Daily Drawings - June 2015

Well, it didn't end up being daily - my life went through a bit of an upheaval and the art was one of the first things I had to sideline. The first three sketches were very disheartening and I was convinced I very much sucked.

And then I did this one in pencil, using a book cover as a guide. It was not a bad start.

And then I wound out the month with this:

And I was fairly happy.

Now I only have to keep it up.

Daily Drawing - July 4, 2015: Improbable Creature #5

Late, today, but here it is. I know... you nearly got a dog, and then I remembered it had to be improbable. Enjoy.

Daily Drawing - July 3, 2015: Improbable Creatures #4

Woke up with this idea, but found it harder to execute than expected. Now I must add 'practice drawing plants' to my list of things to do. I'll add this to the pile of stuff I need to work on. I didn't quite pull it off this time.

Daily Drawings - July 2, 015: Improbable Creatures #3

Today's improbable creature is a reptiloid with some inspiration drawn from the beaver, and some from the cat, and maybe a little from those dinosaurs with the colourful tails.

Daily Drawing - July 01, 2015: Improbable Creatures #2

Here is today's sketch, and this time I actually intended to draw a mousething with wings. I also learned that I really need to practice drawing humans... oh, well.

Daily Drawing - June 30, 2015: Improbable Creatures #1

Well, I'm not doing as well on these as I might, so I'm trying something different. I'm going to draw first thing in the morning, instead of last thing at night, and see if that makes a difference. Today, I woke up thinking of a tree. It's the tree to the left front of the picture. And then I wanted to draw a deer, but the head was wrong, so I created a dragon, instead. So, for July, I think I'll create some improbable creatures, as that's what seems to be inspiring me at the moment.

This is where I would have said my drawing was around thirty years ago... and it's a lot better than the sketches I've tried earlier this month. I have a ways to go to before I can start making beautiful art like Algol, Svenya Liv, Nic Weissman, Claudio Pozas or other folk, but that's what this blog is about - the journey.

Daily Drawing, April 25, 2015 - Swordsman, Attempt 1, Day 1

I guess this is why I set myself the task of drawing every day. I almost regret neglecting my drawing to focus on my writing, but I guess it's just going to take time...

Anyway, my first attempt at something human in a while, and my first attempt at a swordsman. Boy, have I a-ways to go.

Daily Drawing, April 16, 2015 - Aimless Doodling

I was uninspired, tired and short of time, but I picked up a pen, anyway...

Daily Drawing, April 13, 2015 - Dinosaur Nomingia, Day 2

So, the learning process continues. Here is what I added to my dinosaur sketch last night.

Daily Drawing, April 12, 2015: Dinosaur - Nomingia, Day 1

Day 1 of drawing practice, and I turned to dinosaurs. I liked the colours of this one, so I changed its position and thought I'd experiment with a medium I've never used before - coloured pen (fineliners as opposed to black and blue Bic ballpoints). The base sketch was done using HB. Colour was added using Stabilo 18-point 88 Mini fineliners. Here's where I'm at:

Boy, do I have a long way to go...
