Daily Photograph: Garden Orb Weaver

So, one of the hazards of an Australian summer is that the critters that normally keep to themselves, sometimes find us a useful resource for survival. This little gal, for instance, was on a piece of washing, until I noticed her, and then put the piece of washing back on the line until she crawled back home... on the washing line.

I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out for her when I bring the next load of washing in. It's summer, and the washing provides shade, as well as shelter from the birds.

After two months of putting out seed, I finally coaxed four of these to come visit my backyard - I was so excited! It's a king parrot.

These two were just as surprised to see me as I was to see them, but the food was too good, and I was too far away for them to worry about.

So, while I can't find any sketching done in May, I didn't forget to take photographs, although I have to admit I didn't get to it every day, and I definitely didn't post them every day. Here is a daily sample of what I managed to get done.

I took a few bird photos today, and thought it would be hard to choose between them, until I saw this one. This is what a currawong looks like when its sick of having its picture taken over breakfast.

It's ANZAC Day, and these trees reminded me of soldiers standing guard - and of the Dawn Service. Lest we forget.

So, it's cold and wet and the spiders sometimes come inside for somewhere warm and dry, but the shower bay? What is that?

Today's photograph - this little lady was weaving her web in the evening light. She was around four centimeters long, but that's just a guess. I didn't get closer than three metres.

I have this poster hanging on my wall. I don't even know who the artist was, but I enjoyed the game, loved the world and its story-telling potential, and of all the things I could photograph inside, it was the thing that drew me.
